2021 DATES TBD
A coaching group for actor-creators to continue building momentum for independent projects.
It takes a village. Your short, feature, play, or webisode is your baby. As a creator, you need a family—the “village”—that you can go to when you need to be reminded of where your North Star—your purpose—lies. The Creators Circle is that village.
The Creators Circle is a coaching group for independent filmmakers with a special focus on actor-creators. Open to alumni of the Actors as Creators workshop.
The Creators Circle is a mastermind group.
Have you heard this term before? It’s pretty awesome.
“The coordination of knowledge and effort of two or more people, who work toward a definite purpose, in the spirit of harmony … No two minds ever come together without thereby creating a third, invisible intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind [the master mind].”
– Napoleon Hill
The concept of mastermind groups has actually been around for ages—Benjamin Franklin was a part of one called Junto. Even the masters need to be surrounded by masters to get sh*t done!
In the Creators Circle, for two hours every two weeks, you will:
Two private coachings for your project are included!
In addition to the twice-monthly mastermind coaching sessions, you’ll also receive two private coaching calls with Johnny! These two sessions can be scheduled at any point within the four months.
Johnny added this element to the Creators Circle after he observed that extra personal attention to the particular needs of your project can make a difference. If you’re looking to schedule additional coaching beyond the two included sessions, click here.
WRITER/PRODUCER: Johnny Sánchez is an actor + writer + producer. As an actor, he’s worked with Steven Soderbergh, Michael Bay, Frank Oz, Arthur Hiller, and John Badham, among others. Johnny produced Muscle, directed by Heidi. Amber has twice received a score of “8” on the prestigious Black List and was a semi-finalist at the top American screenwriter festival, Austin Film Festival. For people to see our projects and our work, first we have to build it. And because building takes time, it takes persistent motion to build something. And when there’s a challenge, your persistence can overcome resistance. Results come from persistent motions.
However, when we feel alone and like no one is helping us—and especially when all we hear is rejection—it’s hard to feel inspired and to stay in motion.
The Creators Circle is a coaching group for independent filmmakers, with a special focus on actor-creators. It’s a community where any and all questions are raised and worked through in collaboration with other filmmakers like you.
In this group, we will discuss challenges, look for solutions, and brainstorm potential next steps. The Creators Circle is moderated and led by me, an actor-creator just like you who’s been in the creative trenches for the past two decades. I’ve been through the ups and downs, have felt both inspired and frustrated, and have learned that persistence is the most crucial element to being a creator.
The bi-monthly meetings keep you motivated! I coach the group every two weeks for two hours per group. My coaching provides individual attention to cater to your specific needs for whichever phase your dream project is in: development, producing, post-production, festivals, etc.
I’ve also been in the thick of it with my projects over the years, and I can confidently guide you towards empowering yourself with confidence and knowledge. You’ll also become crucial contributors to one another’s process. Independent filmmakers need each other—in truth, we are interdependent. The Creators Circle embraces the interdependent filmmaker within us.
To create targets you can meet, and lasting accountability, the Creators Circle requires a 4-month minimum commitment from each participant.
We’re not playin’ around—we want to get results!
For someone who has never written their own series before, the Creator’s Circle was super helpful. I’ve LOVED that you gave us deadlines, and that you always pushed against taking on more than you can chew. I felt like I learned something from every single person in our circle. I often found that the challenges that they were facing were similar to the ones I was facing. You give ample time to each creator to hash out their project and figure out what will work best to get to the next level with our projects.
Without a doubt, I gained the confidence to call myself a creator. The Creators Circle began to be something I looked forward, to share my progress, my failures, and be in solidarity with my fellow creators as we stumbled and grew. Most importantly, I have a project in motion as opposed to a concept dormant in my mind.
Opening up and sharing my story, and really my self and experience, would have stayed stuck in the land of unrealized ideas without the Creators Circle. I was so afraid and paralyzed by perfection. But your encouragement, and the support of the group, were paramount in allowing me to start exploring… the things you were able to see in what I was doing/dreaming about allowed me the confidence to keep going!!
Creators Circle has given me more confidence in my own work, community, foundation(and whenever I feel lost I can always go back to it). It was a great place to have my ideas get out of my own head. It also helped me to stay on schedule and not let it get lost.
Johnny, you’ve been really helping me keep the ball in the air, pushing myself forward. You got my back, man. I so appreciate the time you take to think about [my project] and join me in the world of the film.
Thank you so much for your help and support. It really means the world to me and helps me keep going when I’m feeling discouraged.
Full disclosure—please note that we do not guarantee that actors in these workshops will be hired for any project that we might direct or cast. We do guarantee my supportive honesty and my open sharing of knowledge. We teach and coach because we enjoy supporting actors as they develop their process of working within the audition room. We seek to build their knowledge about the business of auditioning.
